Welcome to Cookham Cured and Crafted
Cookham Cured and Crafted began as a way to bring together two long-standing interests I have persude over the years: making things by hand and preparing food using traditional methods. The workshop is based in the village of Cookham in Berkshire, close to the Thames and surrounded by the landscapes that inspire much of the work.
The “Crafted” side of the name reflects the handmade wooden pieces produced in the workshop. Using a woodturning lathe and traditional tools, each item is made individually from carefully selected timber. Pens, bowls, bud vases, mills and kitchen tools are shaped and finished by hand, allowing the natural character of the wood — grain, colour and figure — to take centre stage. No two pieces are ever quite the same.
The “Cured” part of the name comes from another craft: preparing and curing food, particularly smoked and cured salmon. Like woodturning, it’s a process that rewards patience, attention to detail and respect for the raw ingredients.
Cookham Cured and Crafted brings these two crafts together under one name, celebrating small-batch making, natural materials and the satisfaction of things that are carefully made rather than mass produced.
